Acrylic photo prints with extra flare

The demand

At Bigacrylic we always try to offer something special with our Acrylic photo prints. This entails keeping up with trends in our industry and responding to what our clients want.

In the last few years, designers and institutions called us looking for Acrylic photo prints that bled all the way to the edge. They also wanted a smooth, shiny finish on the edges. We did offer this product. However, it needed a 1″ border so buffing would not disrupt the image.  We tried various buffing heads but the sides of the image would chip or fade due to the buffing.

In addition, we could not find another company that printed directly onto acrylic and offered this kind of finishing. We tried to convince the clients who asked that a 1″ border was the way to go.  They thought otherwise and went in a different direction.   Even so, the same customers still called to ask if we had solved this challenge.

We spent a few months on r and d and finally found a solution that would make the edges of the acrylic crystal clear and smooth.

The response

After a few months of R&D, we finally found a solution that makes the acrylic edges crystal clear and smooth. It was a 5 figure investment, but we knew it would make a world of difference and position us as innovators.

This machine would flatten out the surface of the acrylic and make the edges crystal clear. I had to see it to believe it.  The results totally blew me away. You can see the image through the sides of the acrylic photo prints, which gives a translucent optical effect.

We offer the SMOOTH EDGE treatment at no extra charge on all float option acrylics in 3/16 and 1/4 thickness. However, 1/8″ acrylic is too thin to show the optical effect.

It really is amazing how one extra finishing can change the look of the whole product. When photographers, decorators and everyday consumers receive acrylic photo prints with the SMOOTH EDGE TREATMENT, it will blow them away.
